After months of probing for support, Mr. Talbert decided not to make it official at the Tacoma Mayor candidate filing deadline. Advocating taxpayer subsidies to empty luxury condos, he used his Chair of Tacoma’s Economic Development Committee and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Board and role on the City Public Safety & Human Services Committee to serve corporate developers at the expense of the public.
Whenever he publicly chest-thumped about accountable government, responsible economic development, health equity, and public safety, JwJ questioned his track record fulfilling titled duties for the north end of Tacoma. It appears that Mr. Talbert wants the community to stop holding him accountable for safety, health, and economic justice issues. We wish him well if he plans to recede into a quieter private life. |

Our monthly donor program has grown to over 120 people contributing over $1,600 per month. This source of steady, reliable income helps us make organizing plans for the future. In 2009, we hope to sustain the incredible growth we've experienced in the past years and make plans for future expansion.
Three quarters of our funding comes from local individuals like you and local democratically-run organizations. We are an almost all-volunteer organization except for 3 staff organizers, and have a small organizing expense budget. Even with these modest costs, our bills are about $200,000 per year. As we are devoting the next few months to this fund-drive, we greatly appreciate your timely contribution so we can get back to committing more of our time to organizing and less time to fundraising.
